Silver Metals:

Sterling Silver
All our Sterling Silver is made of pure 925 Sterling Silver metal. Sterling silver is an alloy made from 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent alloy. The alloys can include zinc, copper or nickel. The reason for the alloy mixture is because pure sterling silver is soft. The alloys make the sterling silver metal more durable. All our sterling silver jewelry is stamped with "sterling", "STER", or ".925" to indicates the item is sterling silver. We have all our sterling silver jewelry protected against tarnishing. Our finishes include satin, antiqued, enamel and polished finishes. Due to the high contents of Sterling Silver in many of our items, there is the possibility that the pendant may tarnish anyways, due to an allergic reaction with your skin. This is a common problem and there have been no reported health affects. All tarnished jewelry is considered defected and may be returned within one year of purchase.

To clean tarnished .925 sterling silver jewelry, simply place about 1 tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl along with a quart to 1/2 cup of hot water. Then, place the tarnished jewelry in the bowl mixture, and let set for no longer than a 1/2 hour. Then polish/buff with a soft cloth. Another option is to use a pink eraser, and rub gently to remove the tarnish.

Pewter
Pewter is a metal alloy consisting mostly of tin mixed with small amounts of hardening agents/metals such as copper and antimony. All our pewter items are lead-free. Pewter is a soft metal and can tarnish over time but is less susceptible of tarnishing than sterling silver. The main difference between pewter and sterling silver is that pewter is a metal alloy and sterling silver is a pure metal.

Always clean pewter with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive cleaning material.

Silver Plated
Silver plated refers to pure silver electroplated to a base metal, usually an alloy of nickel, copper, or brass. The advantages of silver plated are high polish looks, easy to wear and clean, and the least expensive of the precious metals. Silver plated jewelry may tarnish over time.

Always clean silver plated jewelry with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive cleaning material. Use of tissue paper or paper towels will cause scratches because of the fibers.

Gold Metals:

14KT and 10KT Gold
The purity of gold is measured in karats with 24karats (24KT) being the max. The majority of our gold is 14KT gold which is 14/24th gold or 58.3 gold. 14KT gold is alloyed with 41.7% other metals such as copper, zinc, nickel to make it durable and stronger. The amount of gold must remain at 58% gold to be certified 14KT gold. Some of our gold is 10KT gold which is 10/24th gold or 41.7% gold while 58.8% are other alloys. Some of our gold jewelry will be hollow which simply means there is a hollow space inside.

The majority of our 14KT and 10KT gold is yellow gold. Yellow gold is the traditional color used in jewelry. Gold can also be alloyed with other metals to alter the gold's color and improve durability. For instance, adding copper to gold gives it a rosy color and makes it stronger, while adding palladium, nickel, and zinc results in white gold with better durability for your jewelry. Gold plated jewelry can also have a rose color look.

The best way to identify the karate of your gold is to look for the stamp or hallmark usually on the back of the jewelry. Since the passing of the National Gold and Silver Stamping Act in 1906, the karate of all gold jewelry in the US must be indicated with a stamp. If you look carefully, you will notice minuscule letters and numbers stamped in a hidden area of the jewelry. For our 14KT or 10KT gold, look for the hallmarks 14KT. These indicate the percentage of gold purity.

The best way to clean your 14KT and 10KT gold jewelry is applying a dab of non-phosphate dishwasher detergent to warm water, then wiping the tarnished part of the jewelry with this mixture using your fingers or a soft material (such as cotton swab). Do not use any abrasive material such as toothpaste or baking soda, as these products will scratch the metal.

14KT, 12 KT, and 10 KT Gold Filled
Gold filled jewelry involves a sheet of karate gold which is bonded to a base metal through a mechanical process involving intense heat and pressure. All our 14KT, 12KT, and 10KT Gold filled jewelry is made of 1/20th pure 14KT, 12KT, or 10KT Gold and 19/20th is made up silver and gold alloy metals. Our 14KT Gold Filled items do not contain sterling silver, so there is no possible tarnishing due to skin allergies as with sterling silver jewelry items. Our 14KT Gold Filled Jewelry consist of polished, enamel, satin, 2-tone, and brushed finishes. The styles of our 14KT Gold Jewelry vary greatly as we carry many different styles to match our customers needs. Such styles, are diamond engraved, filigree, pointed ends, budded ends, enameling, set stones, and much more. We have placed 14KT Gold Filled across our Miraculous Medals, Saint Medals, and Christian Cross jewelry lines.

Gold Plated
Gold plated jewelry is NOT gold jewelry. Gold plated jewelry is jewelry made of a base metal (e.g. copper) or silver that has a very thin layer of gold applied to the top. This method involves coating a base metal with .175 microns of gold, 10KT or higher, through an electrolytic process. Gold plate can also be achieved through mechanical plating and other techniques. The longevity of the plating depends on how thick the layer of gold is and how often the jewelry is worn. Our "14KT Gold Plated Over Sterling Silver" also known as "Vermeil" jewelry is a thin layer of gold electroplated on .925 sterling silver.

When cleaning gold plated jewelry, avoid any chemicals or abrasives and clean simply with a cotton swab. Shine with a microfiber cloth.
